10 Best Supernatural Romance Shows, According To Ranker

[Collection]

Dark creatures like vampires, werewolves, and witches were things of horror in the past. Movies like Twilight helped popularize the supernatural romance genre, even though it's a genre that has been present in books, movies, and shows for years before.

For example, shows like Charmed and the film The Craft, both helped to popularize witches and make them stylish, magical people that are grounded in humanity, unlike the green wicked witch that The Wizard of Oz portrayed. While romanticizing these creatures that were often seen as violent and monstrous was controversial, it's evident that many Ranker fans prefer sparkly and romantic vampires over the vicious Dracula.

10 True Blood

True Blood follows Sookie Stackhouse, a young woman working as a waitress when she finds herself falling in love with vampire Bill Compton. As her romance with a vampire begins, she gets involved with other dangerous vampires and finds her and her friends' lives at risk.

True Blood came out at the perfect time when Twilight has just gained popularity and there was plenty of hype over vampires. While Twilight was for young adults, True Blood took the vampire craze to the adult crowd by being an R-Rated series with graphic scenes. Many fans are now excited about the True Blood reboot, which goes to show how well-loved this series was.

9 Supernatural

Supernatural follows brothers Dean and Sam Winchester as they go on adventures to hunt down supernatural creatures and help those in need. During their journey, they hope to discover the truth about what happened to their mother and which monster caused her death.

While Supernatural doesn't explicitly focus on romance, there are plenty of romances on this show that fans loved. It's also a great creature feature show, with a new monster every week. For those who love all sorts of supernatural entities, Supernatural would be the best series to watch due to its range of monsters with unique personalities.

8 Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Buffy the Vampire Slayer follows a teenage vampire slayer as she battles vicious vampires with world-threatening goals and other magical creatures along the way. Buffy and her group of friends work together to defeat the various monsters, but things get complicated when Buffy falls in love with the vampire Angel.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was based on a movie of the same name, but the TV spin-off was better than the movie and gained more popularity. Buffy is a notable show because it featured vampire romances long before Twilight and The Vampire Diaries, and no doubt had some influence on those works. Unlike Bella Swan and Elena Gilbert, Buffy is capable of defending herself and doesn't need her vampire boyfriend to protect her.

7 Beauty And The Beast

Beauty and the Beast follows officer Cat Chandler as she looks into a case that leads her to discover a doctor who was presumed dead in Afghanistan is actually alive and has been living hidden in solitude, due to his unique ability to turn into a beast when he's enraged.  As the two grow closer, a relationship forms.

To no surprise, Beauty and the Beast was inspired by the Disney movie of the same name. It has plenty of tropes that fans of supernatural romances love, which is likely why Ranker fans consider this to be one of the best. While the story of Beauty and the Beast is often told, this version of the tale modernizes the story and brings unique twists that make it different from all other adaptations.

6 Outlander

Outlander follows Claire Randall, a nurse during World War II who suddenly gets transported back in time to 1743. Claire then has to learn to adapt to a different time, while also getting romantically involved with a Highland warrior, which causes complications due to her being in a committed relationship already.

While Outlander isn't a typical supernatural show, Ranker fans still couldn't help but include it on their list. This series doesn't focus on monsters or powerful creatures like other supernatural series, but it has fantasy elements to it, such as time travel. Despite Outlander's differences, it's overall one of the best romantic fantasy shows, with a love triangle that keeps fans invested.

5 Teen Wolf

Teen Wolf follows high school student Scott as he ends up bitten by a werewolf while hanging out with his best friend in the woods. After turning into a wolf, he learns of the werewolf pack in his town. He also ends up falling in love with Allison, the daughter of a werewolf hunter.

Teen Wolf is one of the best supernatural teen TV shows, many fans loved the series for its interesting cast and the relationships they developed. Teen Wolf was so successful that MTV is even making a follow-up movie for the series that will let fans back into the lives of their favorite characters.

4 Shadowhunters

Shadowhunters follows Clary, a teenage girl who finds out she comes from a long line of angel hybrids called Shadowhunters, who are also demon hunters. Clary then gets involved with a group of Shadowhunters in hopes to find her mother, who has gone missing.

There were many great relationships in the Shadowhunters series that fans loved, and what makes this series so special is not only the romantic relationships but the friendships. Shadowhunters follows a close-knit group that gives viewers a variety of ships to root for. Many fans love Shadowhunters because it's an emotional story that's adapted, but slightly differs from the Mortal Instruments book series.

3 The Originals

The Originals is a Vampire Diaries spin-off series that follows the first family of vampires ever created as they settle down in New Orleans. Klaus Mikaelson, one of the originals, is part vampire, witch, and werewolf and discovers he was able to impregnate a girl because of his werewolf genes.

The Originals has many different romances that the show focuses on, which keeps romance lovers entertained. Other than the romantic aspect, many Vampire Diaries fans love this show and claim it's even better because it's more mature. Unlike Vampire Diaries, this show follows adult characters rather than teens, and it has way more violence.

2 The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries follows Elena Gilbert, a teen girl who meets and fall in love with vampire Stefan Salvatore. As their relationship develops, she learns that he and his brother are both interested in her because she looks exactly like their ex-girlfriend Katherine, who was a vampire in the 1800s.

Even though the show was based on a series of books, there are many things The Vampire Diaries did better than the books it was based on. Vampire Diaries notably held fans in with its gripping love triangle between Elena and the two brothers, and the unique villains it brought in each season.

1 A Discovery Of Witches

A Discovery of Witches follows Diana Bishop, a young scholar, and a witch who has neglected her powers. While doing some studies at the Bodleian Library, she uncovers a magical manuscript to which only she has access. Thus, vampires, witches, and daemons from all over begin to follow her in hopes of getting access to the manuscript.

A Discovery of Witches is unlike many other supernatural romance shows, given that both main participants of the romance are supernatural entities. It's also a forbidden love story, given that Diana falls for a vampire, which witches are known to despise. These details, including the time travel and significance of the manuscript, make A Discover of Witches an intriguing series.
