Avatar: Reckoning's Pandora & Game Combat Shown Off In New Trailer

A new trailer for Avatar: Reckoning has shown off the upcoming mobile game’s version of Pandora, as well as what its combat may look like. Avatar: Reckoning was initially announced earlier this year and is being made in partnership with a number of companies, including Disney, Archosaur Games, Tencent, and Lightstorm Entertainment. Archosaur Games, which is primarily handling Avatar: Reckoning’s development, previously worked on other mobile titles such as Dragon Raja and World of Kings.

Avatar: Reckoning is one of two games in development based on the 2009 film by James Cameron, with the other being Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. While Avatar: Reckoning is an MMO RPG shooter for mobile devices, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a single-player first-person adventure game, currently in development by The Division studio Massive Entertainment. While first unveiled by publisher Ubisoft last year, and planned for release on the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will feature an open-world version of Pandora players will be able to explore during their playthrough.

A new Avatar: Reckoning trailer, which was shared by IGN on Twitter, has revealed many aspects of the upcoming mobile title, building excitement for its planned release in 2023. Alongside colorful glimpses of Pandora, the trailer also teases some of Avatar: Reckoning’s combat. It appears the mobile game will feature a third-person camera perspective and several different weapon types. The trailer also showcases numerous locations on the planet of Pandora, from what appears to be a military base to thick jungles filled with monsters and other obstacles.

Currently, there are a number of MMO-style games out for mobile devices, allowing players to connect and play online without the need for a home console. This includes the controversial FF7 spin-off The First Soldier, as well as the massively popular Genshin Impact. While these games support touchscreen controls, many players have chosen to pick up Bluetooth or snap-in controllers for more comfortable gaming. It is likely Avatar: Reckoning's fast-paced combat would benefit from controller accessory options, while simultaneously freeing up screen space for better views of Pandora.

While a mobile adventure on Pandora in Avatar: Reckoning may be more restricted than the gameplay expected in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the new trailer seems to indicate the upcoming mobile game will be an excellent choice for fans of Avatar. The weapon types shown in the trailer for Avatar: Reckoning indicate players will have a good number of options when setting up their character, and the intense combat scenes set in the deep jungles will likely be both challenging and immersive. Hopefully, further information surrounding Avatar: Reckoning will be released in the coming months, giving those interested in playing more information and what to expect when the game releases.
