Warning! Spoilers for Iron Man #20 by Marvel Comics
Tony Stark has officially proposed to Hellcat, but Iron Man gets an answer that is heartbreaking but completely understandable. In Iron Man #20 by Marvel Comics, Stark writes Patsy Walker a letter telling his fellow hero how important she is to him and asks her to marry him. However, despite Walker telling him that she loves him for than she ever thought she could, she rejects the proposal.
Patsy Walker, better known as Marvel's Hellcat, has been an important person in Tony Stark's life as the hero goes through several life-changing events. In Iron Man's attempts to stop Korvac, Stark gained the Power Cosmic from Galactus and ended up losing control of his god-like abilities and killing everyone who was close to him. However, after seeing the error in his ways, Stark reset the damage he'd done, went to rehab for three months, and tried to get his life in order. In his next steps, Iron Man makes sure to let Hellcat know how much he loves her, leading to a surprise proposal with a definitive answer from his partner.
In Iron Man #20 by Christopher Cantwell, Angel Unzueta, Frank D'Armata, and VC's Joe Caramagna from Marvel Comics, Tony Stark writes Hellcat a letter after meeting with her following a three-month stay at rehab. Patsy Walker is surprised to see the hero propose to her in the message and admits she needs time to think about it, given her previous marriage to the Son of Satan that ended up leading her trapped in Hell. As the issue concludes, Patsy gives Iron Man her answer: She loves him but can't marry him - at least right now.
The heartbreaking response leaves both heroes sad, but considering what Hellcat has gone through, marriage might never be a viable option for her. Clearly, Patsy Walker loves Tony Stark, and she wants to be with him. But, after being trapped in Hell after her marriage to Daimon Hellstrom, she might never be comfortable or ready to marry anyone - hence her answer.
Patsy Walker still loves Tony Stark and made that clear with her answer. But for now, Hellcat isn't ready to marry Iron Man. She has too much personal trauma related to marriage, and jumping back into it with Tony, even though she wants to be with him, is too much for the hero. Thankfully, with the Ten Rings making their surprise return, Tony Stark won't have much time to lament the rejection, as he is immediately hopping into action to stop the powerful weapons from falling into the wrong hands. Iron Man #20 by Marvel Comics is in stores now.
