The title was originally developed by Witchcraft, but since its inception the game has transitioned to developer Hyde instead. Publisher Bandai Namco delayed Digimon Survive in 2020, but fans will finally get their hands on the game this year.

While the long-anticipated Digimon Survive release date is no doubt exciting to fans of the franchise, a 2022 release puts the project at a disadvantage. 2022 will see the release of multiple other highly-anticipated JRPGs, too, giving Digimon Survive some stiff competition that it could have avoided without delays. The title's most prominent competitor is Xenoblade Chronicles 3, a follow-up to to 2017's Xenoblade Chronicles 2 that is also set to launch on July 29. With both titles releasing on the same day, Nintendo and Bandai Namco will be going head-to-head for role-play dominance.
