Original Silent Hill Is Being Remade In Unreal Engine 5

[Collection]

A fan remake of the original Silent Hill is currently in development, and it's using Unreal Engine 5 to provide new depth and realism to the game's enemies and world. Hopes for an official remake of the classic Konami series are currently high, and there's reason to believe one could well be on the way thanks to leaks and rumors that suggest Bloober Team is working on a Silent Hill 2 remake.

Silent Hill is widely regarded as one of the best survival horror series in gaming, though later releases in the franchise have seen mixed reception from fans. Much like its zombie-fuelled counterpart, Resident Evil, the franchise pivoted from survival horror to more action-oriented gameplay with titles like Silent Hill Homecoming and Downpour - something that many fans weren't happy with. Where Capcom and Resident Evil switched back to the intense horror gameplay from earlier games with releases like Resident Evil 7, Silent Hill has yet to do anything similar. The Silent Hill franchise has been dormant for some years now, with the last official news on a new video game being the Silent Hills reboot which was canceled back in 2015.

As reported by DSOGaming, the developers at Codeless Games are currently working on a remake of the original Silent Hill, reimagined in Unreal Engine 5. In a 10-minute gameplay reveal, a new-look protagonist Harry Mason is seen searching the dark and gloomy corridors of Midwich Elementary School, which has seen its environments and enemies overhauled with new-gen graphics. According to the publication, the project is aiming to become a full-fledged game rather than just a remake of a certain portion. Whether or not it will become playable for all when complete is currently unknown.

The impressive-looking Silent Hill remake is one of a number of in-development fan projects that use Epic's latest game engine. Fans have imagined everything from Skyrim remade in UE5 to another remake in the GTA franchise, with each fan edition fully utilizing the impressive graphics, lighting, shadows, and character models made possible by the new technology. Codeless Studio's horror-fuelled, new-gen take on the original Silent Hill serves as yet another showcase of UE5, but whether or not it will ever become publically available remains unknown, as Konami has previously been quick to shut down fan projects based on its IP.

Whether fans will ever get to play Silent Hill's unofficial Unreal Engine 5 remake or not, Codeless Studio's video serves to show just how terrifying a new-gen version of the game could be. There's currently no news on whether or not an official remake of the original game is currently in the works at Konami, but if it's true that Bloober is set to announce a new Silent Hill 2, fans might well soon get their hands on a new generation version of the iconic town of Silent Hill.
