Apple has announced when it will open pre-orders for its all-new 13-inch M2-powered MacBook Pro. The device was announced at Apple's recent Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event, where the company also introduced the newest generation of its in-house Mac processor — the Apple M2. Apart from the new MacBook Pro, the new chip can also be found in the latest MacBook Air, which was also unveiled at the same event. The latest MacBook Pro and MacBook Air not only share many similarities in terms of design and hardware but are also relatively similarly priced.
Despite rumors suggesting Apple might launch several new products at the WWDC, the two new MacBooks were the only pieces of hardware the company eventually unveiled at the event. However, as expected, there were a ton of announcements in terms of software as the company previewed the newest versions of many of its operating systems. Apple not only announced iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, which will be rolled out to compatible devices this fall, but also took the wraps off watchOS 9, which includes a ton of new fitness-related updates. Also new is macOS Ventura, which gets many new productivity features.
Pre-orders for the updated 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 will open Friday, June 17 at 5 a.m. PT (8 a.m. ET). The device will be available to order through several platforms, including apple.com, the Apple Store app and Apple Authorized Resellers. Customers will start receiving their new MacBook Pro a week later, from Friday, June 24. The device is available in silver and space gray and starts at $1,299 for the base model. Apple is also offering three percent cash back to customers who buy directly from the company with Apple Card. In addition, buyers paying with Apple Card are also eligible for interest-free monthly installments.
In terms of specifications, the 13-inch MacBook Pro is powered by Apple's new M2 chip and can be configured with up to 24GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage. It also features a 13.3-inch Retina display and comes with a battery that Apple claims will offer up to 20 hours of usage on a single charge. The new MacBook Pro also has a Touch Bar, something that's not present in most of the other recent MacBook models.
It is worth noting that despite the 'Pro' moniker, the new 13-inch MacBook Pro misses out on at least one of the features that's available in the cheaper MacBook Air — MagSafe charging. Regarding the new M2-powered MacBook Air, Apple has not officially clarified the exact date when pre-orders will go live for that device, but a listing on the company's website suggests that it will happen sometime next month.
