Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Bear season 1!
Hulu and FX's The Bear season 2 could happen, and here is everything that is known about its story, cast, and release. Created by Christopher Stomer and produced by Atlanta creator Hiro Murai, the latest FX on Hulu TV show tackles the world of the food industry through the prism of a family dealing with grief. The Bear stars Jeremy Allen White as Carmy, a talented chef who used to work at the best restaurant on the planet before moving back to Chicago to take over his family's sandwich shop after his brother's death.
After Carmy takes control of The Original Beef, The Bear season 1 focuses on him attempting to improve the restaurant. He's met with resistance by the employees who are faithful to his brother, especially his best friend Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). However, Carmy's efforts to turn The Original Beef around are aided by the hiring of Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), an ambitious young chef in her own right. Despite plenty of angry verbal fights and constant financial problems, The Bear season 1 ends with a sign of hope for the future for Carmy.
The first season of The Bear has been met with great acclaim, as reviews for the series praised the cast and the high-tensioned story. Shameless' Jeremy Allen White's performance as Carmy, his battle with anxiety caused by the restaurant lifestyle, and repressed grief over the death of his brother all act as particularly strong narrative beats for the series. As a result, it is understandable audiences to want to see much more of Carmy's story and what happens next for The Original Beef in a potential The Bear season 2.
FX and Hulu have yet to confirm that The Bear has been renewed for season 2. The extremely positive reviews for the series are a point in the show's favor for such an announcement to come eventually. Viewership on the first season will be another piece of the puzzle for FX and Hulu in determining whether or not The Bear season 2 should happen. The prior collaborations between FX and Hulu have primarily resulted in single-season stories, like Andrew Garfield's Under the Banner of Heaven, but there is a roadmap for The Bear to be an exception.
If The Bear season 2 happens, viewers should see most of the cast and characters return. The first season came close to leaving the show in a position to leave Sydney and Marcus out of the next story, but that changed by the end. Jeremy Allen White will lead The Bear season 2's cast as Carmy once again, while Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Ayo Edebiri will be back too, alongside Abby Elliott, Liza Colón-Zayas, and others.
There is a clear tease of what The Bear season 2's story will be in the finale. Carmy discovers his brother had money hidden in the tomato cans, giving the restaurant an influx of cash - and surely enough to pay back Uncle Jimmy (Chicago Med's Oliver Platt). This leads Carmy to close The Original Beef. He mentions on the closing sign that a rebrand is coming, with the restaurant's name changing to The Bear. The Bear season 2 will likely follow the opening of this new restaurant and how Carmy, Richie, and Sydney make it better than The Original Beef.
If The Bear season 2 is made, it is unclear when it will be released. The second season, in theory, would not take very long to film, as the small sets and cast could help Christopher Storer turn around the next chapter of the story quickly. It is unknown if any scripts are completed for The Bear season 2, though. The earliest viewers could see Carmy's story continue is 2023, as next summer could be a good place for The Bear season 2's release date.
