The debut of Page Punchers, a collaboration between DC Comics and McFarlane Toys, is providing comics fans an awesome new way to enjoy their favorite DC heroes by including a 3-inch or 7-inch action figure along with a related comic.T he first round of Page Punchers will include toys of heroes like Superman, Batman, Black Adam, and the Flash.
Sold under the DC Direct branding, these awesome new action figure/comic combinations are not only a great way for longtime fans of DC Comics to collect new toys, but they are also an amazing way to draw youth into the world of comics. As the comics industry struggles at times with keeping children interested in comics, it has become very adult-focused. But with comic book movies like The Batman or the MCU films blowing up the box office and introducing beloved comic heroes to kids, having children be able to buy a toy and also get a comic book could be a great way to get youth interested in reading comics.
The 3-inch Page Punchers start at $9.99 and the 7-inch ones start at $24.99. Interestingly, a lot of the comics that are being paired with the action figures are not from DC's recent Infinite Frontier era, instead focusing on past epic eras of beloved heroes. Since Page Punchers are not being advertised across the internet not every comic fan knows about them yet, which has led to tweets like the one by Craig Cermak below, where Craig snapped a picture of the Page Punchers being sold at a Target in Chicago, excitedly exclaiming, "A comic AND a toy??" The first round of Page Punchers include a toy and comic of the Flash from Flashpoint, Batman from Batman: Hush, Superman from DC Rebirth, and Black Adam from the more recent Endless Winter, and each toy has partial articulation and comes in a clamshell compartment attached to the comic.
While the 3-inch pocket figures are already in stores, fans are now also able to pre-order the awesome 7-inch versions with full articulation, bonus parts, and a base, which include figures of Black Adam, Superman, Batman, and John Constantine. What makes the upcoming release of the 7-inch collectibles even cooler is that the Black Adam comic they are attached to - written by Cavan Scott with art by Tyler Kirkham and colors by Arif Prianto - is an entirely new Black Adam story never released before, and sold exclusively with these Page Puncher figurines. With the highly anticipated Black Adam film starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson premiering in October 2022, this summer is the perfect time for DC Comics to be pushing this fan favorite character, who has often been portrayed as a major villain in his early arcs, and has now transformed into an anti-hero and at times outright superhero.
DC Comics and McFarlane Toys' newest collaborative venture, the exciting Page Punchers, are a surefire way to get kids excited about comic books, and are also a fun way for adults to collect new versions of their favorite superheroes like Black Adam, Superman, Batman, and the Flash.
