Every Character Revealed For Cult Of The Lamb (So Far)

Cult of the Lamb is an exciting new game being developed by Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital. Ahead of its release on August 11, 2022, the company uploaded a video introducing many of the characters that will be met in the game. A few of these NPCs may be familiar to those that have played through the demo on Steam. The reveal also gives audiences a closer look at the interesting gameplay of Cult of the Lamb.

As the name suggests, Cult of the Lamb is a game that lets players run their own cult. The title begins with users controlling a cute lamb about to be sacrificed. Just as everything seems to be over, players are summoned by a great demonic entity that revives the main character. The one condition for a new life is that a cult must be formed to worship this otherworldly creature. Accepting the offer, players begin their journey to recruit followers, while also dispatching the heretics that sacrificed them in the first place.

Cult of the Lamb is an action roguelike, with dungeon-crawling elements, reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda and The Binding of Isaac, the latter being a very influential and important indie game of years past. While the game may have a cute outward appearance, there are plenty of dark undertones with the cult theme. As is common with the genre, players will encounter random power-ups, locations, and enemies. Cult of the Lamb also features a base-building mechanic, where Followers will help build a Sanctuary for the cult. While not much is known outside of what has been released so far, this area will, most likely, act as the stable progression part of the game.

In Cult of the Lamb, players will meet several helpful NPCs. The first character encountered is named Ratou, an old vessel of the demonic entity that revived the Lamb at the beginning of the cute and creepy Cult of the Lamb. He serves as a guide and mentor throughout the game, explaining how to create the perfect cult. On their first mission, players will encounter Clauneck, a fortune teller that uses Tarot Cards, which grant bonuses to different attributes. Players will be given two choices, which can significantly alter how the game is played in subsequent fights. Similarly, Kudaai is a weapons dealer that will have random items and curses to select. An interesting character, not featured in the demo, is the spider Helob. He traps animals in his web, which can be set free to gain more followers, for a price. Many games feature a fishing mini-game and Cult of the Lamb is no different. The final NPC revealed by Devolver Digital is The Fisherman, a character that rewards players for collecting fish along their journey.

Cult of the Lamb is an interesting new take on the Action Roguelike genre. The wonderfully cute, yet creepy art style will, hopefully, help draw the attention of players upon release. Fans can look forward to building their own cult, when Cult of the Lamb comes out on August 11, 2022.
