Despite being one of the oldest characters in the True Blood series, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) was a relatively young vampire. Bill was one of the main vampires of the series, often serving as an on-again/off-again love interest to protagonist Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin). He was also one of the original citizens of Bon Temps, the fictional town at the center of the show's supernatural drama.
True Blood was adapted from a novel series by Charlaine Harris called The Southern Vampire Mysteries. The show is set in a fictional version of the world, two years after vampires have revealed themselves to the public. As the series progressed, other supernatural creatures were revealed, including werewolves, shifters, werepanthers, and even an Ifrit (djinn). Running from 2008-2014, the show was highly successful and featured 80 episodes across seven seasons. The first five seasons were critically acclaimed, though the ending of True Blood was considered a disappointment.
Bill Compton was born on April 9th, 1835, putting his total age at the start of True Blood at 174 years old. Bill was turned shortly after his tenure with the confederacy in the Civil War in 1865 at the age of 30, making his vampire age around 144 years old at the start of the series. As one of the most senior citizens residing in Bon Temps, Bill becomes involved in the local politics recounting stories of how the town was in his day. He is even distantly related to the Bellefleur family, as the 4x great grandfather of show mainstays Andy and Terry Bellefleur.
Bill's age at death in True Blood is a little more tricky to figure out. Going by the actual run of the show would place him at about 180 years old by the show's end in 2014. However, many seasons of the show pick up right where the previous seasons left off. For example, the first season of True Blood only spans a little more than two weeks, with the second season picking up immediately after season 1's cliffhanger. The only significant time jump comes between True Blood seasons 3 and 4, when Sookie is stuck in the Fairie domain for a year. The remaining seasons follow the previous pattern of no time-skips, meaning that Bill's death would have only come about two years after the start of the series. If this is the case, Bill would be around 176 at the time of his death and would have spent nearly 146 as a vampire.
Age defined strength for those who became vampire in True Blood. The older a vampire was, the stronger and faster they were. As Bill was younger than many of the vampires in the series, he had to use his intellect and cunning to gain power and influence in the vampire world. Bill meets the true death at the end of the final season, True Blood season 7, fittingly in the arms of Sookie. With a reboot on the menu, it is unknown if Bill will return in any capacity, updating the vampire's current age.
