Marvel Just Made Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings/Kang Theory More Likely

Marvel just made the Marvel Cinematic Universe theory connecting Kang to Shang-Chi's Ten Rings more likely to be true. One of the biggest mysteries to come from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was the origin of the Ten Rings weapons. Utilized by Wenwu for most of the movie, the Shang-Chi never explained where they came from, instead teasing a few different possibilities. It was not until Shang-Chi's post-credits scene that Simu Liu's MCU hero learned of the beacon the rings contained and the tease that Wong, Captain Marvel, and Bruce Banner could not identify what they were made of.

The mystery surrounding the MCU's Ten Rings allowed many theories to emerge. Those who looked towards the comics wondered if they belonged to Fin Fang Foom, while other theories pondered connections to the Eternals. One of the most fascinating Shang-Chi theories speculated that Kang may have created the Ten Rings. The theory builds on the hints that Ta Lo is connected to the multiverse, while their power of granting their wielder eternal life would be fitting for Kang the Conqueror. While the theory became popular, the suggestion that Kang made the Ten Rings still felt a bit far-fetched considering how separated Shang-Chi seemed to be from the multiverse stories of Phase 4.

Thanks to Marvel Studios' massive announcements about the Multiverse Saga, including Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, the Kang/Ten Rings theory just became more likely. Marvel hired Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton to helm Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, a move that at least somewhat suggests a connection between the two movies will exist. Shang-Chi appearing could do just that, but Cretton now is also in the position to flesh out some storylines ahead of Shang-Chi 2. Since Kevin Feige has also teased that many of the Phase 4 post-credits scenes have been used to build towards the next two Avengers movies, it would not be surprising to eventually learn that the Ten Rings' beacon is for Kang and a sign that they are linked.

Shang-Chi's Ten Rings coming from Kang the Conqueror could mean they will be incredibly important in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. The MCU has only scratched the surface of what the Ten Rings are capable of, as their possible ties to Kang could mean he knows how to unlock more of their abilities. Even if that does not happen, Shang-Chi could possibly share the power of these weapons with his fellow Avengers to fight Kang. The MCU has already confirmed that multiple people can wear and control the Ten Rings at a single time, but their power could go a step beyond halting aging and actually give the Avengers some form of added protection against Kang.

There is also the chance that the Ten Rings become the key to defeating Kang through Shang-Chi's presence alone. His MCU debut showed how powerful he was with the weapons, and this was with no training. With Shang-Chi likely to have a big role in Avengers 5, part of his story could be about him understanding the full power of the rings and the different ways he can use them. This could make Shang-Chi one of the most powerful members of the new Avengers team in Phase 6, meaning his command of the Ten Rings could go a long way in the quest to beat Kang.
