Stranger Things Art Imagines A Deeper Connection With Will & Vecna

Warning: this article contains spoilers for Stranger Things season 4.

A new piece of Stranger Things season 5 concept art imagines a deep and dark connection between Will and Vecna. First released on Netflix in 2016, the Duffer Brothers' horror/fantasy series has since become one of the streamer's biggest shows. Volume 1 of Stranger Things season 4 was released in May, introducing audiences to a new villain in the form of Jamie Campbell Bower's Vecna. The record-breaking season concluded earlier this month with 2 supersized episodes depicting a full-on assault against Vecna in the Upside Down.

Unlike previous seasons, the Stranger Things season 4 finale ends on a major cliffhanger, with Vecna succeeding in his plan to open a series of portals to the Upside Down in Hawkins. After Will's (Noah Schnapp) connection to the Mind Flayer was first explored back in season 2, the season 4 finale teases that this connection could once more play an important role, with the character experiencing his tell-tale goosebumps on the back of his neck signaling that the Mind Flayer is close. Although there's no word yet on when Stranger Things season 5 will release, the Duffer Brothers have previously stated that Will will play a more prominent role.

In a chilling new piece of Stranger Things season 5 concept art, artist Sonnyfive imagines a disturbing connection between Will and Vecna, with the two characters essentially morphing together. The art sees Will looking almost like Two-Face from Batman, with one half being just his normal face and the other being wrinkly and gnarled Vecna skin. Check out the creepy art below:

With the confirmation that Will plays a more important role in season 5 than in previous seasons, many fans are understandably wondering whether his existing connection to the Mind Flayer could spell trouble for Hawkins. Stranger Things season 4 ends with Vecna defeated but still alive, potentially meaning the villain could somehow tap into this connection and use Will as his human vessel, essentially turning him evil. After all, season 3 featured the Mind Flayer doing something similar to Billy (Dacre Montgomery), with the creature controlling him and using him to build up his monstrous physical form.

It remains to be seen what the upcoming season of Stranger Things holds for Will and the other residents of Hawkins, but the ending to season 4 certainly sets up a more emotional and action-packed season than ever before. It's unclear what Will's connection to Vecna and the Mind Flayer will mean for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the others, but the poster above definitely seems to be a worst-case scenario. Unfortunately, Stranger Things fans have a while to wait before they find out, with season 5 not set to even start filming until next year.
