According to World of Reel, Focus Features reportedly plans to delay the Drive-Away Dolls release date for Ethan Coen’s first solo directorial feature. Due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the star-studded comedy’s September 22 theatrical release has been potentially pushed back to a much later date.
What is Drive-Away Dolls about?
“This comedy caper follows Jamie, an uninhibited free spirit bemoaning yet another breakup with a girlfriend, and her demure friend Marian who desperately needs to loosen up,” reads the official synopsis. “In search of a fresh start, the two embark on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, but things quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way.”
The film stars Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) as Jamie, Geraldine Viswanathan (Blockers) as Marian, and Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart) as Sukie, with Colman Domingo (If Beale Street Could Talk), Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), Bill Camp (The Queen’s Gambit), and Matt Damon (Ocean’s Eleven films).
Drive-Away Dolls is co-written by Ethan Cohen and his wife Tricia Cooke, who are both executive producing. Robert Graf, Tim Bevan, and Eric Fellner are producing the comedy caper. It hails from Focus Features and Working Title.
