The son of the director of the 1937 Disney movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has criticized the upcoming live-action remake.
In 2024, Disney will release Snow White, a live-action remake of their classic animated movie. The film will star Rachel Zegler (West Side Story, Shazam! Fury of the Gods) as Snow White and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman, Fast & Furious) as the Evil Queen. The movie has garnered controversy over its decision to cast a Latina actress in the lead role and non-little people to play the characters who were dwarfs in the source material.
David Hand, son of the director who helmed the original 1937 movie (also named David Hand), criticized the new movie. He said his father and Walt Disney would be “turning in their grave,” calling it “insulting” to the original film.
“It’s a whole different concept, and I just totally disagree with it, and I know my dad and Walt would also very much disagree with it. It’s a disgrace [that the studio is] trying to do something new with something that was such a great success earlier. Their thoughts are just so radical now. They change the stories, they change the thought process of the characters. They’re making up new woke things and I’m just not into any of that. I find it quite frankly a bit insulting [what] they may have done with some of these classic films.”
What is the Snow White release date?
The movie is set to release on March 22, 2024.
