The preview for The Boy and the Heron’s soundtrack has come out. Legendary musician Joe Hisaishi and Studio Ghibli have released a teaser on Twitter.

Who is Joe Hisaishi?

Joe Hisaishi is a legendary composer in the Japanese music industry. He has been working since 1974 and has worked on many musical genres, including Westerns and minimalism.

Hisaishi has also worked as a composer on several films, including 1996’s Kids Return and 2000’s Brother. His most notorious film works include collaboration with the legendary Studio Ghibli director, Hayao Miyazaki.

Miyazaki and Hisaishi have been working together since 1984, and The Boy and the Heron is the latest inclusion in their partnership. The film came out in Japan on July 14 and was the director’s return to the industry in more than a decade.

Some of Joe Hisaishi’s other works with Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki include 1992’s Porco Rosso and 1997’s Princess Mononoke.

What is The Boy and the Heron?

The Boy and the Heron is an animated film adaptation of a 1937 novel of the same name, written by Genzaburo Yoshino. It was directed by Hayao Miyazaki, produced by Studio Ghibli, and Joe Hisaishi made the music.

The movie is set in 1943, and the mother of the protagonist, Mahito Maki, is killed during a fire. The film shows his family moving to another place, and Mahito tries to overcome the loss of his mother, adapting to a new place and having no friends.
