Star Wars: Outlaws Features Nvidia DLSS 3 and Ray Tracing

Nvidia recently announced that Star Wars: Outlaws will feature ray tracing and DLSS 3 upscaling and latency reduction. The upcoming action game launches for PC, PS5, and Series X/S this year. However, the Nvidia features are, of course, limited to PCs with compatible hardware.

Nvidia showcases Star Wars: Outlaws graphical performance

Nvidia showed off Star Wars: Outlaws’ graphical performance in a recent trailer. In addition to the often-discussed DLSS and Ray Tracing, the trailer also drew attention to its use of Nvidia Reflex. Technically a component of DLSS 3, Reflex reuses latency on compatible GeForce graphics cards and laptops. This improves response times, especially when using the other DLSS 3 features. The other aspects of DLSS 3 are Super Resolution upscaling and Frame Generation. The latter uses AI to create additional frames, doubling the game’s framerate.

Primarily Developed by Massive Entertainment, Star Wars: Outlaws is a single-player action-adventure game set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Players take control of outlaw Kay Vess as she attempts a massive heist in the Outer Rim. Accompanied by her alien companion Nix, the adventure will take her to planets ranging from the familiar Tatooine to the never-before-seen Toshara. The latter is an arid moon inspired by the Tanzanian savannah. It’s also a hub of pirates and smugglers, described as a “gem of the underworld.”

The recent Nvidia trailer isn’t fans’ first look at Star Wars: Outlaws gameplay. Ubisoft offered an extended look during Ubisoft Forward in June 2023. However, it does offer a preview of how good the game can look on the right hardware.
