Owen Wilson will be starring opposite comedian Matt Rife in the upcoming R-rated comedy movie Rolling Loud. It is written and directed by Murder Mystery 2 filmmaker Jeremy Garelick.
Rolling Loud will be set at the real-life music festival of the same name. Production on the film will commence at the festival, which is commemorating its 10th anniversary in Miami this weekend. Garelick is directing the feature through his company, American High.
What is Rolling Loud about?
Deadline reported that Wilson is joining the comedian in Rolling Loud. It is inspired by a true story following an overprotective father (set to be played by Wilson) who sneaks his teenage son into the popular hip-hop festival.
“Rolling Loud follows an overprotective father (Wilson) who makes the worst parenting decision of his life when he sneaks his 13-year-old son into the world’s largest hip-hop music festival, setting off a chaotic adventure with his reckless co-worker (Rife) and an eccentric festival volunteer as they navigate wild crowds, security, and their own family dynamics,” the plot description reads (via Deadline).
The movie hails from Live Nation Productions and American High, with Garelick also producing alongside American High’s Will Phelps, Pat Solitano Productions’ Stella Bulochnikov, and Jolene.
Wilson is best known for his starring roles in Bottle Rocket, Meet the Parents, Shanghai Noon, The Royal Tenenbaums, Midnight in Paris, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Wonder, and The French Dispatch, among others. He most recently starred in the Marvel series Loki as Mobius M. Mobius.
Rife rose to prominence as a stand-up comedian, with a number of television credits under his belt including MTV’s Wild ‘n Out, The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars, and in episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Fresh Off the Boat. His stand-up specials include Matt Rife: Only Fans, Matt Rife: Matthew Steven Rife, and Matt Rife: Natural Selection.
No exact release date has been set yet for Rolling Loud, but it is slated for release in 2025.
