A new update regarding the DCU Clayface movie has emerged online.
Following the recent release of Superman, DC fans are turning their attention to a number of other upcoming DCU projects, including 2026’s Supergirl and Clayface. The Clayface movie is being directed by James Watkins and will star Tom Rhys Harries as the titular Batman villain.
Clayface is expected to begin filming this coming fall. The movie currently has a September 2026 release date.
What is the new update on the Clayface DCU movie?
According to Nexus Point News, Rhys Harries will portray Matt Hagen in the Clayface movie, who is meant to be an “amalgamation of Hagen with Basil Karlo’s backstory.”
“Sources tell Nexus Point News that Hagen is a handsome, up-and-coming actor who’s attacked and disfigured,” the article reads. “Originally from Gotham, he moves to Hollywood to escape his troubled past and begin a career as an actor. With his disfigurement, his career and outlet as an actor is ruined and is eventually transformed into a shapeshifting monster.”
The article also mentions that a brand-new character named Dr. Caitlin Bates will be part of the Clayface movie.
“Bates is the CEO of a biotech startup seeking to create cutting-edge medicine and medical technology,” the article states. “Bates sees Hagen as a way to grow her company and cure his condition. Throughout the process she falls in love with him while her fiance John grows suspicious of their relationship. John is a detective and committed to Caitlin and his job. The antagonist of the film is set to be a crime boss, who like Caitlin and John, is another original character.”
According to Nexus Point News, the film will not feature any other “recognizable DC characters” and, instead, “will primarily consist of original characters in this character-driven horror film.”
Clayface currently has a September 11, 2026, release date from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.
