Michael B. Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair reimagining has lost its main actress, with Deadline reporting that Taylor Russell has exited the film.
Why did Taylor Russell leave the Thomas Crown Affair movie?
According to Deadline’s report, Russell left the project due to creative differences. No word of what those differences might have been were mentioned, though, so it’s unclear exactly what the issue was. Deadline notes that re-casting for Russell’s role is underway as production continues on the film in London.
Russell was set to star opposite Michael B. Jordan in the reimagining of the classic Steve McQueen film. Alongside the pair, Lily Gladstone, Kenneth Branagh, and Danai Gurira are also set to appear in the movie in some capacity. Jordan’s version of The Thomas Crown Affair is slated to arrive in theaters on March 5, 2027.
The upcoming heist movie is written by Drew Pearce and Wes Tooke, based on a story by the original movie’s writer Alan Trustman. It is produced by Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo for Outlier Society, along with Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff. Trustman has also signed on as an executive producer. Charles Roven has also joined the project as a producer.
The original film came out in 1968, and starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway in the leading roles. A 1999 remake of the movie was also released, starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo.
“An adventure of a millionaire playboy who steals a priceless work of art and then strikes up a fiery romance with the brilliant female insurance investigator who is on to his game,” a description of the 1999 movie reads.
