The long-awaited Scrubs reboot has been officially greenlit by ABC.
Scrubs is an American medical sitcom television show created by Bill Lawrence that premiered in October 2021. The show — which stars Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, and more — ran for nine seasons before ending in 2010.
Who will star in the Scrubs reboot?
Per Deadline, a Scrubs reboot is now officially happening. Braff will reprise his role as John Michael “J.D.” Dorian, as will Chalke as Elliot Reid and Faison as Christopher Turk. All three of them will also serve as executive producers.
Lawrence is also returning as an executive producer on the project, though Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra, who both worked on the original show, will serve as showrunners. Jeff Ingold and Liza Katze will also be executive producers.
“The new series will follow JD Dorian (Braff) and Christopher Turk (Faison), who scrub in together for the first time in a long time — medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time,” Deadline’s description of the new show reads. “Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart, and some surprises along the way.”
Judy Reyes, who played Carla Espinosa, may also return for the Scrubs reboot, though she is also a series regular on ABC’s High Potential. “Sources reveal there have been positive scheduling conversations ongoing between Scrubs and the Kaitlin Olson-led crime drama to allow for her to do both,” the article notes.
Lawrence said in a statement, “Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together.”
An official premiere date for the Scrubs reboot has not yet been set, though Deadline reports it will “likely” debut in the 2025-26 midseason. The original show, meanwhile, is available to stream on Hulu.
