Black Phone 2 reviews are beginning to come in for the next entry in the horror movie franchise, with many saying the Ethan Hawke-led movie improves upon the original.
What are the Black Phone 2 reviews saying?
Black Phone 2 reviews are slowly beginning to make their way online. While no official Rotten Tomatoes score has been given as of yet, the film does seem to be getting some extremely positive views.
Slant Magazine’s Rocco T. Thompson praised the movie, saying “Scott Derrickson collapses dreams, reality, past, and present sidelong into a singular cinematic haunted space.” Likewise, Slashfilm’s Rafael Motamayor said the film avoids “retreading” upon the first movie, and instead pivots into “an awesome Dream Warriors-esque story that turns The Grabber into an undead nightmare.”
Roger Ebert’s Brian Tallerico said the film does err on the long side, but still manages to work “in unexpected, creative ways.” IndieWire’s Katie Rife notes the film’s homages to “enjoyable” past horror movies.
“Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between The Grabber and her own family’s history. Together, she and Finn must confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death and more significant to them than either could imagine.”
Based on characters created by Joe Hill, the script for Black Phone 2 comes from Derrickson & C. Robert Cargill. The cast further includes Demián Bichir, Arianna Rivas, Miguel Mora, Jeremy Davies, Maev Beaty, and Graham Abbey. Derrickson, Cargill, and Jason Blum produce the movie, while Ryan Turek, Adam Hendricks, Daniel Bekerman, and Jason Blumenfeld serve as executive producers.
Black Phone 2 arrives on October 17, 2025.
