Why Apple TV+ won’t release a new episode of Chief of War this week
Apple TV+ will not release a new episode of Chief of War this week because the final episode of the first season, “The Black Desert,” aired last week on September 19, 2025. The episode marked the conclusion of the series’ scheduled nine-episode run, so there will be no further episodes.
The show is a historical drama based on true events. Its story follows Ka’iana, played by Jason Momoa, and Kamehameha as they unite forces to fight the invaders. In the finale, Ka’iana is named Chief of War by Kamehameha and prepares the Hawaiian army. While the battle ended with Kamehameha achieving victory, the episode ended with a massive cliffhanger. King Kahekili orders Lima to assassinate Ka’iana and bring his bones.
Chief of War debuted with the first two episodes on August 1, 2025, and subsequent episodes were released weekly. Both the show creators, Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, are Hawaiian, which lent authenticity to the show.
Apart from acting and co-creating the show, Momoa has also directed the final episode. While there is no official announcement about Season 2, the creators are hoping for a second and third season. (via Hawaii News Now)
During the interview, Momoa also shared his excitement about producing the show. “This is definitely my dream,” he shared. “I mean to talk about representation. I’ve never had the opportunity to play anything like an ancestor.”
Apple has yet to make any official announcement about further seasons.
