Da’Vine Joy Randolph has spoken directly about the future of High Fidelity. She revealed that she and co-star Zoë Kravitz have ongoing conversations about bringing back the Hulu series for a second season. In a recent interview, the Oscar-winning actress revealed that she and Kravitz regularly discuss how to continue the story after the show’s abrupt cancellation.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph says both she and Zoë Kravitz want High Fidelity Season 2

Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph confirmed that she and Zoë Kravitz often talk about continuing High Fidelity. “Absolutely. We all feel the same way. Zoë and I talk about it all the time, like, ‘How can we figure this out?’” Randolph told Rolling Stone. She added, “Give it back to the people, but really give it back to us, because we just really love it.”

However, Randolph acknowledged the challenges of reviving the show. “But it’s a really tricky one, because you’re trying to recapture lightning in a bottle. Sometimes you have to just let things be what it is organically and trust in the process to find the next thing,” she said.

The High Fidelity TV series premiered on Hulu in 2020. It was a gender-swapped adaptation of the 2000 John Cusack film, which was based on Nick Hornby’s novel. The show followed Robyn “Rob” Brooks (Zoë Kravitz), a record store owner in Brooklyn reflecting on past relationships. Randolph played Cherise, Rob’s friend and co-worker at Championship Vinyl.

Despite strong reviews, Hulu canceled the show after one season. The final episode leaves the story unresolved as Rob chooses to pursue a relationship with Clyde (Jake Lacy) instead of Mac (Kingsley Ben-Adir). In the closing scene, Clyde remarks that there’s only a “9%” chance their relationship will work.

Kravitz previously expressed disappointment with the cancellation. “That’s where I really learned about producing and editing and writing, and man, I’m sad,” she told Elle. “I keep on going back to Hulu and trying to get them to re-up it, but they won’t. They’re not interested.”

Randolph said she deliberately did not watch the original film before filming the series. “I did not want in any way for my performance to be tainted. I wanted it to authentically be me.”
