Avengers: Doomsday director Anthony Russo has commented on how large of a role Chris Evans will have in the MCU movie.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in post-production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie will be released in United States theaters at the end of the year. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, then arrives in 2026.
So far, Marvel has released four Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailers. The first teaser revealed that Chris Evans — who was not part of the initial cast announcement — will be reprising his MCU role as Steve Rogers, while the second focused on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and the third on a handful of X-Men characters. The fourth teaser then put the spotlight on Letitia Wright’s Black Panther/Shuri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm/The Thing, and more.
What did Anthony Russo say about Avengers: Doomsday?
Speaking with Empire Magazine, per Cosmic Marvel on Twitter, Anthony Russo said that Chris Evans will have a “central role” in Avengers: Doomsday.
“We have a special affinity with the character, we can’t see this narrative without his central role in it, basically. The special place he holds among the ensemble, he sort of retains that moving forward,” Russo said.
In addition to Evans and the aforementioned actors, Avengers: Doomsday stars Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Tenoch Huerta MejÃa as Namor, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cummings as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Gambit, Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
Avengers: Doomsday is dated for December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars then follows on December 17, 2027.
