Colman Domingo‘s upcoming Nat King Cole movie has finally received a major update, revealing the biographical drama’s official title and director. The Academy Award-nominated actor has been attached to the project for over two years now.
Who is directing Colman Domingo’s Nat King Cole movie?
According to Deadline, the Nat King Cole biopic will now officially be titled Unforgettable, which might likely be inspired by the legendary singer’s popular 1951 song of the same name. In addition to leading the cast, it has been revealed that Colman is now also attached to direct the biopic from a screenplay he has co-written with Vernon Scott. This would potentially serve as the feature-length directorial debut of the Euphoria actor. Before the project, Domingo previously co-wrote the stage play Lights Out: Nat “King” Cole in 2017.
“The movie will chart Nat King Cole’s journey as a musician and quiet revolutionary, navigating racial injustice, Hollywood sabotage, and self-doubt to ensure his legacy and help pave the way for future generations of artists and Black men and women,” reads the movie’s initial synopsis.
Lionsgate has also joined the project to handle its international sales. Domingo, Scott, Cassian Elwes, Charles D. King, William Rosenfeld, Poppy Hanks, Jimmy Edwards, Veronica Radaelli, and Fred Berger are set as producers. Production is expected to begin sometime this year.
This won’t be the first time that Dolmingo will play a real-life personality, as he previously led Netflix’s Bayard Rustin biopic Rustin. His performance in the 2023 movie earned him his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor. He will next be seen playing Michael Jackson’s father in the upcoming biopic Michael, which will arrive in theaters on April 24, 2026.
