Martin Scorsese’s Hawaiian mob movie starring Dwayne Johnson has received a new update. The film, which will also star Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt, is now undergoing some “major rewrites.”
Scorsese is making a crime movie about the Hawaiian crime syndicate that is set in the 1960s and 70s. More specifically, the movie will be about Wilford “Nappy” Pulawa, a crime boss who operated an organization known as The Company.

According to World of Reel, the script for the movie, which does not yet have a title, is undergoing rewrites. Writer Nick Bilton is expected to turn in a “major” revision to 20th Century Studios in approximately a month.
“If Disney greenlights the movie, which I don’t see why they wouldn’t, it will be fast-tracked, with Bilton also attached as a producer,” the article notes.
Blunt said of the project in October 2025, via Deadline, “We’re developing it right now. It’s a really astonishing story. It’s the last great American mob story, and I can’t believe it hasn’t been told yet. It’s a terribly exciting role for [Johnson] to kind of dig into. So, it’s being written, we’re working on it. And that’s the wonderful part, is building it.”
The Deadline article also says of the movie’s plot, “The pitch focuses on a turbulent time on the island paradise when the aspiring mob boss battled elements like triads and U.S. military to wrest control. It was a bloody battle. The character is based on Wilford ‘Nappy’ Pulawa, who led the largest organized crime syndicate on the Hawaiian Islands, The Company, in the 1970s. He ruled through a reputation for brutality and murder.”
A release date for Scorsese’s new mob movie has not yet been set. Scorsese is also working on a thriller titled What Happens at Night, which stars DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.
