Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reportedly cut a Daredevil easter egg out of the movie. The easter egg would have made a lot of sense following No Way Home.
Following Parker’s introduction of the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home, a lot of fans expected Daredevil to make an appearance in Brand New Day. But despite the presence of The Hand, there were no signs of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.
However, production designer Will Dixon made a surprising revelation and confirmed having created more than one card to be featured in Peter Parker’s wallet. Out of these, one particular card read, Nelson Murdock Page: Attorneys At Law.
Replying in the same thread on X, Dixon also revealed that there were other cards, including a Blumenthal Bagels card and a The Coffee Bean card. Dixon explained that The Coffee Bean card might have been given to Peter Parker as a promotion. This was a callback to the Spider-Man comics from the 60s and 70s, where The Coffee Bean appeared as a common hangout location.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Daredevil Easter egg would have made sense after No Way Home
Speaking about the Matt Murdock card, Dixon reminded fans that the card might have been handed over to Peter in No Way Home. This makes a lot more sense, as Daredevil was handling Spider-Man’s case when his original identity was exposed and he was being targeted by the public. Despite Doctor Strange’s spell making life easy for the Queens’ native, it is only sensible for Peter to keep Murdock’s card handy in case he needs to contact him again.
Interestingly, this was not the only Daredevil reference that was omitted from the movie. Rosario Dawson, the actor who plays the character of Claire Temple in Netflix’s Defender saga, reportedly had a role in Brand New Day. However, Dawson later confirmed that her part was scrapped from the main cut of the movie. Following this announcement, fans immediately speculated that Temple might have been the one who protected Peter Parker’s identity, together with The Punisher, when he was admitted to the hospital.
