After a long wait, CD Projekt RED has finally shared an update on The Witcher 4’s release window. The next installment will advance the story in the long-running, single-player, open-world blockbuster franchise.
CD Projekt RED’s Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski has confirmed that The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 launch window. In a new video ahead of Gamescom, Nowakowski provided crucial information for avid fans eager to learn about the game’s arrival.
Assuring fans of a great experience, he promised, “I know it’s a bit of a wait, and you’d love to play it sooner, but let the team cook. It will be worth the wait.”
Compared to past entries where Geralt was the main protagonist, The Witcher 4 will see Ciri in the central role of an experienced monster slayer.

Now that it’s clear that the video game comes out two years later, it means The Witcher 4 might be in its early-to-mid stages of full production. What’s great about the launch window is that CD Projekt RED will have more time to polish and build the project as intended using Unreal Engine 5.
A two-year window also suggests that the developers will hopefully avoid the overtime that affected their previous title, Cyberpunk 2077, and led to various gameplay issues.
What becomes clear from CD Projekt RED’s release window announcement for The Witcher 4 is that it’s prioritizing quality and long-term franchise planning instead of rushing development for a quick launch.
