RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars season 7 features some of the fiercest competitors in the franchise's history. This time around, the winners get to do another round of grueling challenges in order to snatch the prestigious title "Queen of All Queens." One of the queens competing in the "All Winners" season is the season 4 winner of the original season, Jinkx Monsoon.
On their season, Jinkx is known for being a quick-witted queen who loved the theater and had superior singing and acting chops. But other than that, some of the most profound, insightful, and entertaining quotes from the show have been uttered by the legendary winner.
Apart from dealing with the tough challenges and other competitors, drag queens also have to face the harsh critiques from the show's panel of judges. Jinkx deals with this in a very special way. On the main stage, they reveal that they utter the phrase "Water off a duck's back" repeatedly to themself before the judges give their critiques.
The motto essentially prepares Jinkx to remain aloof in case she hears unpleasant remarks from the judges. Mama Ru approves of this approach as well, as she commends Jinkx and tells them it's a great mantra to keep in mind.
The commercial challenge in season 5 has spawned some of the catchiest taglines in the show, from Alaskas Thunderf***'s "Red for Filth" to Alyssa Edwards's "Alyssa's Secret." As one of the funniest queens in Drag Race herstory, Jinkx also created a tagline commercial that still lives rent-free in fans' heads today.
Tasked to create and direct a TV commercial for their own perfume, Jinkx decided to call their's Delusion and marketed it towards those with dreams that want to live beyond their means. The tagline as a whole, "Delusion — convince yourself!" is still very much relevant amongst RuPaul's Drag Race fans and is thrown around often in shady online discussions.
Jinkx has narcolepsy, which means that they're prone to suddenly falling asleep whenever and wherever, even during the most inappropriate times. Their condition is evident throughout their season, as they were seen dozing off during the confessionals and while preparing for the main challenges.
Jinkx introduces themself as "Seattle's premier Jewish narcoleptic drag queen!" They are one of the four drag queens from Seattle to compete in the show, and the only one to actually gain the title America's Next Drag Superstar.
Aside from being a superb singer and comedy queen, Jinkx is also great at impersonations. For Snatch Game, they chose to impersonate Little Edie from the 1975 documentary film Grey Gardens.
Their sharp and quick humor allowed them to piggyback on the banter between RuPaul and Marilyn Monroe (played by Ivy Winters). They referenced the late actress' scandal by saying, "Quite the scandal actually, with my cousin-in-law really. It was in all the magazines at the time." Despite choosing a pretty obscure character to impersonate, Jinkx won the challenge and is even considered one of the best snatch game performers in the history of the show.
With their smart quips, well-crafted jokes, and strong physical comedy, Jinkx dominated the roast challenge during their season. Before roasting Mama Ru, Jinkx had a couple of shady things to say to her fellow competitors, as well as the other judges.
Jinkx went in on RuPaul by saying how she has a talent for looking at the other competitors and finding something remarkable about them, even if she doesn't wholeheartedly mean it. Without a doubt, Jinkx's talent at throwing shade was in full view during the roast challenge.
As one of the top contestants during their season of Drag Race, Jinkx was invited to the prestigious one-on-one Tic Tac dinner with RuPaul. During their conversation, Jinkx reveals that they had a rough childhood due to their absent mother. Jinkx notes that they use their drag to "...make peace with a dark childhood."
The season 5 winner also reflects that the reason why they do drag as a more mature character is due to the fact that they were unable to fully enjoy their childhood. Their passion and perseverance allowed them to become an incredibly entertaining and well-rounded drag queen, making them one of the most deserving winners of the show.
During their season, Jinkx wasn't known for their fashion and sense of style. While they might have had a couple of looks that were able to wow the judges, Jinkx was often worried that they would get read for filth on the main stage, especially by resident judge Michelle Visage.
During the second episode of season 5, the queens were tasked with recreating some of the most unforgettable moments in Untucked. While Jinkx received high praise for her portrayal of Mimi Imfurst, one of the judges noted that her wig looked dry and thirsty. That prompted them to make a quick retort by saying, "I tried to tease it but I just pissed it off."
Being on RuPaul's Drag Race is a groundbreaking opportunity. Even those who never made it far in the competition were still able to make a lot of bank from their appearances on the show. Looking back at their career after the show, Jinkx notes that they were able to elevate their drag thanks to their exposure and fame gained on RuPaul's Drag Race.
From scripted shows and musical tours, to comedy events, Jinkx has been booked and busy after winning season 5 of the show.
In All Stars season 7, the queens had to prepare two impersonations. For their first character, Jinkx did Natasha Lyonne, complete with the actress' raspy voice and dry humor. But it was their second character that sealed that deal and secured the win in their bag.
Doing Judy Garland was the smartest decision Jinkx did in the competition. It was evident that Jinkx really prepared as they copied Judy's mannerisms and speech to a T. Taking control of the banter with RuPaul, Jinkx looked straight into the camera and broke into a comedic rendition of "Jealous of My Boogie" as the legendary Hollywood icon.
Being a quick-witted comedy queen, it's no wonder that Jinkx also did extremely well during the improv challenge in All Stars season 7. They had to assume the role of the plaintiff in the courtroom show Fairytale Justice.
Jinkx smoothly bantered with fellow queens Monét X Change, Jaida Essence Hall, and Yvie Oddly. During the aftershow interview with RuPaul, one of their fake pig ears fell off, and Jinkx quickly played up and showed off her improv chops by saying, "I'm sorry you're gonna have to speak up, I can only hear you half as well."
More than just a campy comedy queen, RuPaul's Drag Race Season 5 winner Jinkx Monsoon is also known for her insightful personality and quotes.Jom Elauria
