The Accountant 2

The official synopsis for The Accountant 2 has been revealed as the Ben Affleck sequel moves from Warner Bros. to Amazon MGM Studios.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming sequel to 2016’s The Accountant has officially moved from Warner Bros. to Amazon MGM Studios. Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity production company were able to license the sequel rights to Amazon after the project “lost [its] luster” under David Zaslav’s oversight at Warner Bros.

Along with Affleck, The Accountant 2 will see J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson reprise their roles from the first film. Anna Kendrick, who played Dana Cummings in the 2016 movie, is not returning.

What is the synopsis for The Accountant 2?

“When her former boss is killed by unknown assassins, Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (Addai-Robinson) is forced to contact Christian Wolff (Affleck) to solve the murder,” the logline reads. “With the help of his estranged but highly lethal brother Brax (Bernthal), Chris applies his brilliant mind and less-than-legal methods to piece together the unsolved puzzle. As they get closer to the truth, the trio draw the attention of some of the most ruthless killers alive—all intent on putting a stop to their search.”

Gavin O’Connor (who also worked with Affleck on 2020’s The Way Back) directed The Accountant and is returning for the sequel, while Bill Dubuque wrote the script.

Affleck and Damon are both producing The Accountant 2 alongside Lynette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams. Dani Bernfeld, Kevin Halloran, Michael Joe, Alison Winter, Scott Lastaiti, and Jamie Patricof serve as executive producers.

The Accountant 2 is currently in the casting process and does not yet have an official release date from Amazon MGM Studios, though it’s expected to begin filming later this month. The Accountant, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
