She filed a lawsuit on November 18, 2024, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Carter alleges she worked 70 to 75 hours weekly but received only her $10,000 monthly base pay, distributed bi-monthly. The lawsuit alleges that MrBeast’s company intentionally classified her as an independent contractor to avoid paying overtime.
Despite being hired as a full-time producer in July 2022, she asserts she was required to respond to work communications “any time of day on all days of the week.” Additionally, Carter moved from California to Greenville, North Carolina, for the position, where she was provided an apartment by MrBeast’s company.
The allegations arise as MrBeast faces other controversies. These include a lawsuit over his Amazon-backed reality show, Beast Games, regarding workplace conditions and contestant treatment. Carter’s claims state her work did not qualify for exemptions under the FLSA for executive, administrative, or professional roles. This makes her eligible for overtime compensation.
Carter’s legal team has requested a jury trial and is seeking compensation for all hours worked beyond 40 per week, plus interest. Meanwhile, MrBeast’s representatives have declined to comment on the ongoing litigation.
