Legendary‘s highly anticipated Godzilla x Kong: Supernova movie has finally received a new update regarding the latest sequel’s current production status. It is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 26, 2027. Even though the movie has no direct box office competition on the day of its theatrical release, it will still be debuting in the same month as another high-profile movie — Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
What’s the latest update on Godzilla x Kong: Supernova?
Through an Instagram story, costume designer Ann Foley has confirmed that the production on Godzilla x Kong: Supernova will soon start filming in Utah. This comes after the movie’s cast and crew had just recently wrapped up filming in Australia.
Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is being directed by Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) from a screenplay written by Dave Callaham. The cast will include Golden Globe nominee Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart), Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, Legion), Jack O’Connell (SAS: Rogue Heroes), Delroy Lindo (Sinners), Matthew Modine (Stranger Things), Alycia Debnam-Carey (Fear the Walking Dead), and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park), with Stevens reprising his role as Trapper from 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The film is reportedly featuring “several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.”
Legendary’s MonsterVerse franchise began in 2014 with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla, which starred Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Following its success, it was followed by several sequels, including 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong. In addition, the studio has also partnered up with Netflix for an animated Skull Island show that premiered on Netflix in 2023. Besides continuing to expand its film franchise, Legendary is also currently working on its Apple TV+ spin-off series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which is slated to return for a second season.
