A recent concept art revealed an alternate look at María Gabriela De Faría’s villain, the Engineer, from James Gunn’s Superman. Also known as Angela Spica, she is one of the antagonists who helps Lex Luthor in his quest to defeat David Corenswet’s Superman. The Engineer is a powerful character in the DCU, who possesses nanites in her bloodstream and can form solid objects with them.
The Engineer almost got a different look in Superman
Recently, a concept artist named Constantine Sekeris shared an alternate look at María Gabriela De Faría’s Engineer from the movie Superman. The costume shown in the concept art is similar to the one she donned in the James Gunn-directed film.
Serkeris posted numerous frames of the Engineer’s alternate look and wrote, “Another great character to help bring to life from the comics…..we stayed to the source material and we wanted to translate her look in a unique way that allowed her costume breathing vents when she started to use her nano tech ect….she was very challenging we all tackled as a team and also the very talented team over at @legacyeffects jumped in with stunning design work as well to help explore many ideas that I’m sure u will see in do time.”
The Engineer is a metahuman who is one of the key players in Lex Luthor’s team and helps in taking down Superman. However, following the climactic fight with Superman, the Engineer is defeated.
While speaking about her experience portraying the Engineer in the movie in April 2025, María Gabriela De Faría told Remezcla, “This experience was super challenging physically, but it was also very challenging emotionally. My character as The Engineer is a very physical character. And not only because of the image that the character has in the comic. But because of all the things I had to do on set. It was a very long process that has left me with a gift, a love for movement.”
