It may have taken 13 years for Avatar: The Way of Water to hit theaters after its 2009 predecessor. But the third film, Fire and Ash, will be hitting the big screen in just a couple of months. Now, singer and actress Miley Cyrus has revealed her involvement.
In the next installment of the Avatar franchise, Jake Sully and his family will be up against a new threat. The Ash People (or the Mangkwan Clan) are an aggressive, fiery tribe, allying with the previous movies’ antagonist, Colonel Quaritch.
Fire and Ash will also introduce another new tribe called the Wind Traders. Harry Potter’s David Thewlis will play its leader, Peylak. We’ll also be seeing the Sully family forever changed by the tragic death of Neteyam, Jake and Neytiri’s eldest son.
Cyrus will take part by recording an original song for the movie.
What did Miley Cyrus say about her Avatar: Fire and Ash song?
So far, each Avatar movie has featured an original song. For example, Leona Lewis’ “I See You” was for the first movie. As for Way of Water, The Weeknd released “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength).” Miley Cyrus announced on her Instagram that she’ll be the next to contribute a new song for Fire and Ash. She shared what the track, titled “Dream As One,” means to her.
“Honored to support Avatar: Fire and Ash with an original song I’ve written with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. Having been personally affected by fire and being rebuilt from the ashes, this project holds profound meaning for me,” said Cyrus. “Thank you, Jim, for the opportunity to turn that experience into musical medicine. The film’s themes of unity, healing, and love resonate deeply within my soul, and to be even a small star in the universe the Avatar family has created is truly a dream come true.”
Many Instagram users have commented that, based on the song’s brief snippet she teased, Miley Cyrus could be on the cusp of Oscar greatness. The Oscars will announce the nominations for 2026 on January 22nd, so we will have to wait and see.
