John Slattery’s legal drama series The Rainmaker has finally received a second season renewal at USA Network, which has already begun operating as Versant. The said media company was formed as a spinoff of most of NBCUniversal’s U.S. cable assets.
The renewal comes nearly a week after the show aired its first season finale. Per Variety, the first nine episodes of The Rainmaker garnered an average of 1.3 million viewers across all platforms. Season 2 is expected to premiere sometime in 2026.
What did USA Network say about The Rainmaker Season 2 renewal?
“The verdict is in — The Rainmaker is returning for season two on USA Network,” Versant’s president of entertainment, Val Boreland, said in a statement. “Along with our brilliant showrunner Michael Seitzman and our partners at Lionsgate and Blumhouse, we’re thrilled to build on the momentum and deliver another compelling chapter of this gripping legal drama for our viewers.”
The Rainmaker is based on the best-selling novel by John Grisham. The cast includes Slattery, Milo Callaghan, Lana Parrilla, Madison Iseman, P.J. Byrne, Dan Fogler, Wade Briggs, and Robyn Cara. It is written and executive-produced by showrunner Michael Seitzman. Executive producers are Jason Richman, Grisham, David Gernert, and Jason Blum. It is a production by Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television.
“In the show, Rudy Baylor, who is fresh out of law school, goes head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond as well as his law school girlfriend, Sarah. Rudy, along with his boss, Bruiser, and her disheveled paralegal, Deck, uncover two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son,” reads the synopsis.
