It sounds like Zombieland 3 could very well be happening.
Zombieland is a 2009 horror comedy movie directed by Ruben Fleischer. It stars Jesse Eisenberg as Columbus, Woody Harrelson as Tallahassee, Emma Stone as Wichita, and Abigail Breslin as Little Rock. The movie was a big hit for Sony Pictures, raking in approximately $102.4 million globally off an estimated $23.6 million.
A sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap, was released in 2019, ten years after the first movie. Fleischer returned to direct, while Harrelson, Eisenberg, Stone, and Breslin all reprised their roles. It made even more money than the first one, roughly $125.2 million, though it had a higher budget, estimated at around $42 million to $48 million.
What did Ruben Fleischer say about Zombieland 3?
During the press tour for Double Tap, many of the people involved with the franchise said they’d ideally like to make a new Zombieland movie every ten years. Now, with there only being a few years left until 2029, Fleischer told Deadline he’s still expecting that to be the case.
“I’m hoping that we’ll do a Zombieland 3 in 2029,” he said. “We’re starting to talk about that because [the first] one was 2009, and then we did the second one in 2019, and we kind of left that one all saying, ‘We’ll see you in 10 years’ That’s coming up now, and so we’re starting to figure that out, so I’m hoping that’ll come together.”
Fleischer did say that he’s got “a few things that are raring to go” and that he’ll see “which one comes first,” meaning it’s possible he might work on some other projects before tackling Zombieland 3.
In addition to the sequel, there was a pilot episode of a Zombieland television show, titled Zombieland: The Series, that was released on Amazon Video in 2013. Shortly after its release, it was announced that the show was not being picked up to be a series at Amazon.
