The John Rambo release date has been set for the upcoming prequel movie. The cast of the new action movie is led by Noah Centineo and James Franco, with a star-studded ensemble joining.
When does the new Rambo movie come out?
According to a new announcement by Lionsgate, John Rambo will release in theaters on June 4, 2027. Alongside Centineo and Franco, the cast of the Rambo prequel also includes David Harbour (Stranger Things), Yao (Sinners), Jason Tobin (A Thousand Blows), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Yellowstone), and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus).
“John Rambo takes audiences back, years before the events of First Blood, diving deep into the roots and experiences that forged one of the big screen’s most enduring and complex characters,” reads the official logline for the film.
The Rambo prequel will be directed by Jalmari Helander (Sisu, Big Game) and is said to follow the story of a young John Rambo during his time in the Vietnam War. Sylvester Stallone, who made the role of Rambo legendary, is said to be aware of the movie but not involved at the moment. However, the door is “open” for him to potentially appear in the movie should he be willing.
The Rambo franchise stretches across five films, beginning with 1982’s First Blood, which was an adaptation of the 1972 novel of the same name by David Morrell. The latest film in the series, Rambo: Last Blood, was released in 2019 and was directed by Adrian Grünberg. That film starred Stallone as an older Rambo.
