Early reviews for Evil Dead Burn are here, and critics believe the movie has one thing right compared to its predecessors. The latest installment in the iconic horror franchise is helmed by Sébastien Vaniček.
What are critics saying about Evil Dead Burn?
Ahead of its awaited theatrical debut on Friday, Evil Dead Burn seems to have struck a chord with most of the critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Many reviewers note that the latest entry outdoes the previous Evil Dead films in one particular area.
According to most of the critics, it heavily focuses on gore and brutality while being extremely mean. For example, Matt Donato of Daily Dead wrote, “It’s a breakneck endurance test that will leave you breathless and afraid … In Evil Dead Burn, the mean get meaner.”
William Bibbiani of TheWrap wrote that Evil Dead Burn is “the evilest Evil Dead, and that feels right. Dead right.” Reflecting on the movie’s disturbing and brutal treatment, Joel Harley of Metro wrote, “It doesn’t make for easy viewing, and Vaniček somehow manages to up the ante in what was already one of horror cinema’s consistently gruesome franchises.”
Patrick Cremona of Radio Times wrote that Evil Dead Burn manages to impress with its “mean-spirited brutality that should keep fans of the series happy, although those of a more squeamish persuasion might be best to stay at home.”
David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter wrote, “Right off the bat, Vanicek shows he’s not fooling around, with a maximum-brutality kill.”
Speaking of its Tomatometer debut, Evil Dead Burn has managed to garner a solid score of 80%, based on over 40 reviews, at the time of this article’s publication.
This places it second among the modern Evil Dead films that began with the 2013 reboot. Evil Dead Rise from 2023 is at the top with an amazing Tomatometer score of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. The first entry in the reboot franchise, from more than a decade ago, has now moved to third position, with a score of 64%.
