Sandra Bullock‘s Practical Magic has set its 4K UHD release date ahead of its 2026 sequel. The classic comedy film also featured Nicole Kidman, among others.
When is the 4K UHD release date for Practical Magic?
Practical Magic, first released in 1998, will get its first-ever 4K UHD release on August 25, 2026. The remastered cult classic will be available digitally and on 4K UHD Blu-ray just weeks before the debut of its sequel, Practical Magic 2.
The official synopsis for Practical Magic reads, “In a small, contemporary New England town, for two sisters from a family of witches, falling in love is the trickiest spell of all. They struggle to use their gift for magically guiding fate to overcome their family curse: The men they fall in love with are doomed to an untimely death!”
The 4K UHD release version of Practical Magic will include the following:
- The Power of Practical Magic: Nearly 30 years after Practical Magic first cast its spell, the women who made it revisit the story, sisterhood and world that turned an unconventional film about witches into a generational touchstone.
- Commentary by director Griffin Dunne, producer Denise Di Novi, star Sandra Bullock and composer Alan Silvestri
Additionally, the 4K Ultra Blu-ray version of the classic film will contain:
- Casting the Spell: Director Griffin Dunne and producer Denise Di Novi, along with stars Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Aidan Quinn and Goran Visnjic, reflect on the joys of bringing Practical Magic to life.
- Making Magic: Go behind the scenes with the cast and crew of Practical Magic as they share their insights on bringing Alice Hoffman’s novel to the screen.
- Commentary by director Griffin Dunne, producer Denise Di Novi, star Sandra Bullock and composer Alan Silvestri
When it was first released in theaters in 1998, Practical Magic didn’t resonate well with critics. It currently holds a poor Tomatometer score of just 27% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, fans loved it, which is evident from the solid Popcornmeter score of 73%. In subsequent years after its release, the film managed to turn into a cult classic.
Other cast members of the film include Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing. Its screenplay was written by Robin Swicord, Akiva Goldsman, and Adam Brooks.
As for its sequel, Practical Magic 2, it will hit theaters on September 11, 2026. The second part is based on Hoffman’s 2021 novel, titled The Book of Magic.
